Dark cherry 

I have always been a bit of a sucker when it comes to gadgets. My boyfriend winds me up about it but I know that he is just jealous because I am more up to date with technology than he is…

The other day I saw one of the best gizmos ever. It was when I was visiting my friend at her apartment. We were standing on the balcony smoking (she doesn’t smoke indoors) and talking about something or other. She asked me if I wanted another coffee and then went inside to make it. I looked out over balcony at the gardens below and saw something strange on the neighbour’s lawn. It looked like a cylinder vacuum cleaner without its hose and it was moving around on the grass by itself.

I shouted my friend but it had disappeared by the time that she came back outside. Typical. When she went back in to finish the coffee I spotted it again. This time she managed to get a glimpse of it before it vanished behind a hedge. We spent the next five minutes waiting for it to reappear. When it did we soon realised that it was a cordless and programmable lawn mower. Neither of us had ever seen one before.

So, here I am now. I’m just waiting for my boyfriend to get home from work. He knows how much I love new gadgets and the grass really could do with cutting.

I may know more than him about technology but he is the highest earner…
