The Rise and Fall of Big Brother.
This country has more CCTV cameras in it than any other in the whole of Europe. That is quite a frightening thought.
As far as I am concerned, when George Orwell wrote 1984 the only detail that he got wrong was the actual year in question. Most of the other elements of his tale are totally accurate.
Now it has come to light that surveillance cameras do not actually do a lot to prevent crime. This is not the first time that evidence has suggested this.
It would be far better (and also far less intrusive) if the money that was spent on all of these CCTV devices was used to put more Police Officers back on our streets.
The amount of violent crime being committed in Britain is on the increase. If you have been told otherwise then you are being lied to. Turn on the news any day of the week and it will stare you in the face. We need someone in power to take notice of what is going on and to do something more sensible with the money that has been allotted for law enforcement.
